First Impressions Last!

These days of information overload you don’t get a second chance to make a Good First Impression.  This is especially true when it comes to how your brand is represented online, whether that’s your website or your social media channels.

Website design and usability (making it easy for your users to use your website) has jumped forward in huge bounds over the last 3 t0 5 years and if you haven’t kept up then you’ll get left behind by your competition.

Your online presence will make a huge difference to your brand recognition, brand image and ultimately gaining customers and sales.  Take a look at your website and think about a few simple things:

  • Are you impressed with the design of your site, how does it stack up against the competition?
  • Is the information on your website up to date and does it do your business justice? Does it explain your business offering? Will site visitors be encouraged to explore further into your site when they hit your homepage.
  • Is the design attractive to visitors and reflect the right image for your business?

A dated website can give the impression that your company, products and services are also outdated and not up to the job, this gives your competitors the advantage.

A website that makes it easy for users to navigate and contains information that is informative and engaging will lead to visitors becoming leads and leads becoming conversions and ultimately more customers for your business.

It’s not all about the look; consider the engine behind the look

If your site is too old then the engine behind it does give you the power and control you now need.  Consider:

  • Is your site Responsive, in other words does your site work well on mobile or tablet devices? Having a responsive website is a must – with over 65% of Irish web visitors using mobile devices while researching online, not to mention the international users you could be selling to
  • Do you have outdated web technology like Flash – Flash is old school and it can’t be viewed on most tablets and phones. So the cool images you think your users are seeing, they’re not
  • Is your website slow to load? Patience is a virtue that a lot of web users just don’t have so if your site takes too long to load then your visitors will go elsewhere. Check your site Google Speed Check tool
  • Is your Content Management System (CMS) up to date? Do you have an easy to use CMS, one that you can actually use to take control and update the content on your own site and not rely on techie know how?
  • Can you see what’s happening on your site? Google analytics Google Webmaster tools are essential tool for every website owner who wishes to track the performance of your website – track visitors, goals/conversions, measure your return on investment. Hey the dirty little secret – these tools is that they are FREE!
